Premium   Download PDF Now (9 pages)
Report Type Reports and Testimonies
Report Date March 28, 1985
Report No. 126573
Subject
Summary:

GAO discussed flexible and compressed work schedules for federal employees. Reviews indicate that alternative work schedules can achieve benefits to both the government and the employee. However, there are also disadvantages associated with these programs that could diminish the the positive effects of the programs. GAO believes these disadvantages could be minimized through better management controls, and that the programs can work and be successful if they receive the commitment of both management and employees. GAO believes that, although little empirical data or studies are available on the benefits of alternate work schedule programs, legislation authorizing the programs should be made permanent.
