After flipping the gender wage gap for the first time in 2023, House female staffers appear on track to widen the wage gap in 2024.
House female staffers are set to earn roughly 2% more on average compared to their male counterparts in 2024, according to LegiStom's annual salary rates estimations. This is not yet finalized, as House bonuses have not been paid out for 2024 and are not yet reflected in LegiStorm's data. If it holds, it will be a continuation of a historic trend that began in 2023 when House female staffers overtook House male staffers in average salary by less than 1%.
The biggest pay disparities between genders seems to be among certain key roles in member district offices. Female regional directors appear to be outearning their male counterparts by roughly 10%, according to LegiStorm's salary data. For the district chiefs of staff, females appear to be outearning males by nearly 11.5%. However, these titles also appear in a minority of offices. Although there are some key roles where males are outearning their female counterparts, the salary disparity is much slimmer.
Annual salary rates are an estimation of the salary payments a staff member would receive for a particular position if that position were held for an entire year. This number is calculated based on actual payments received and the number of days he or she held that position. Annual salary rate data only includes staff working in full-time, permanent positions.
