GAO was requested to audit the expenditures of transition funds made by the Reagan administration.

To provide services and facilities to the President-elect and the Vice President-elect during the transition period, appropriated funds were made available pursuant to the Presidential Transition Act. The funds were used for personnel compensation; personnel benefits; rent, communications, and utilities; travel; printing and reproduction; supplies and materials; and transportation. GAO found that the obligations and expenditures of Transition Act funds were made in accordance with the Act, and no management problems in the use of the funds was observed.
