Premium   Download PDF Now (8 pages)
Report Type Reports and Testimonies
Report Date Aug. 5, 1983
Report No. NSIAD-83-24
Subject
Summary:

GAO examined the Navy's process of reviewing the adequacy of integrated logistics support (ILS) planning during acquisition operations. Specifically, GAO suggested ways to improve the efficiency of the process.

GAO found that the Navy's review process is generally working well and that it is adequately identifying, recommending solutions for, and following up on logistics problems. However, GAO made several suggestions for improving the process, including: (1) improvement of timeliness of program offices' status reports on the actions they have taken to address problems identified by the logistics reviews; (2) augmenting the current practice of conducting ILS reviews close to the production milestone with earlier reviews; and (3) developing a comprehensive inventory of all Navy systems for use by the ILS review groups.
