Report Type Reports and Testimonies
Report Date Oct. 12, 1982
Report No. PLRD-83-1
Subject
Summary:

Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO reported on the extent to which the Army's proposed consolidation of the Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania, Comptroller's mission at Fort Drum, New York, had altered the estimated costs and savings associated with the proposed realinement.

In a previous report, GAO had found that the Army was concerned about the potential deterioration of financial support to Reserve units if the Army consolidated the Fort Indiantown Gap Comptroller's mission at Fort Meade, Maryland, as has been proposed. As a result of this concern, the Army is now considering two alternatives: consolidating a part of the Fort Indiantown Gap Comptroller's mission, the Finance and Accounting Office, with a similar function at Fort Drum; or retaining the entire Comptroller function as is at Fort Indiantown Gap. GAO believes that savings are possible if the Army implements either alternative, but that retaining the entire Comptroller function at Fort Indiantown Gap would be the most cost efficient.
