Summary:

While the controversy concerning the ethical issues associated with biotechnology seems to have abated somewhat, a new concern has arisen: the role of the university in the commercialization of genetically engineered products which are developed on campus. Congress has begun to address whether commercialization will have an adverse impact on university biomedical research and, if so, whether there are mechanisms available to protect the interests of the university.
