Summary:

On November 9, 2014, President Obama announced his intention to nominate U.S. Attorney Loretta E. Lynch to replace Eric H. Holder Jr. as Attorney General (AG). Holder has elected to remain serving as AG until his successor is confirmed. Lynch's nomination was received in the Senate and referred to the Judiciary Committee on November 13. At the end of the 113th Congress, Lynch's nomination, which had not yet been acted on, was returned to the President under Senate Rule XXXI. President Obama renominated Lynch at the beginning of the 114th Congress.
