Summary:

Intellectual property is a source of comparative advantage and a wellspring of exports of goods and services by many of America's most creative and innovative companies. Protection of intellectual property rights is an important element of U.S. international trade policy. This report discusses the importance of intellectual property rights (IPR) to U.S. industry and the steps taken by the United States to protect intellectual property abroad, including multilateral and bilateral agreements and negotiations, and U.S. trade laws.
