Organization's Own Description:
In 2004, Senator Cornyn and then-Senator Hillary Clinton founded the Senate India Caucus as a bipartisan coalition and forum for senators to work closely with Indian government officials and Indian-Americans in promoting U.S.-India bilateral relations and to candidly discuss issues of common interest.
The need for stronger U.S.-India relations became apparent as global Cold War frictions eased and new, strategic partnerships and alliances took on new significance, and building this relationship remains highly important to U.S. interests. In recent years, the United States, the world’s oldest democracy, and India, the world’s largest democracy, have shared a common commitment to freedom, representative government, free market principles, and winning the global war on terror. Today, the Senate India Caucus, comprised of 34bipartisan members, continues to build upon this common tradition of democracy by supporting regional and global security and prosperity for both nations.
