Press ReleaseCongressman Pat Ryan Announces Reopening of Westbrookville Post Office
Reopening follows Ryan’s pressure on Postmaster General DeJoy and campaign to save the Post Office from permanent closure
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Pat Ryan announced that the Westbrookville Post Office is reopening November 14th. Following the Post Office’s abrupt closure earlier this year, Congressman Ryan launched a campaign to save the Post Office, including directly demanding Postmaster General Louis DeJoy reopen the post office immediately.
“Today’s announcement is a major victory for the people of Westbrookville,” said Congressman Pat Ryan. “From seniors who struggled to access medications to families who couldn’t receive critical packages, this closure was devastating to so many across the community. I’m proud that by working together with residents and government officials in Westbrookville, we delivered and restored the critical mail services that the community needs and deserves.”
“I am delighted to hear the news that the post office will be reopening shortly,” said Karl Brabenec, Assemblyman for the 98th District. “This is a victory for all involved. Thank you to everyone who made this a reality. Our efforts will greatly help all of the residents in the area.”
Congressman Ryan’s office worked closely with the residents and government officials of Westbrookville and the United State Postal Service to coordinate the Post Office’s reopening, including attending community and phone meetings.
In August, The Westbrookville Post Office was closed with just a 24 hour warning, directly breaking USPS regulations, which require notice of at least 60 days. The community already did not have mail delivery services, which made the closure even more devastating.
