Today, Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-42) is calling on the Biden Administration to ensure the United States, Ukraine, and our allies, have access to critical weapons and munitions. Rep. Calvert sent a letter to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Mark Milley expressing the immediate need.
“The people of Ukraine have fought valiantly against the invading Russian forces but, as President Zelenskyy has told us, their ability to secure their nation relies heavily on access to critical weapons and munitions,” said Rep. Calvert. “Now that Congress has acted to fund military aid for Ukraine, the Biden Administration must move with expediency to ensure we have the assets required to support Ukraine, our allies, and have adequate supplies to meet our own national security needs. We must move with haste to increase the necessary production of Stinger, Javelin, Switchblades, and the corresponding munitions. These are the tools Ukraine needs to defend its democracy and the United States must make sure they are not left empty-handed.”
To support Ukraine and counter Russia’s aggression, the recently enacted Fiscal Year 2022 Appropriations bill included $13.6 billion in critical military, economic, and humanitarian assistance to help respond to the ongoing invasion and massive displacement of people.
