Official press release from Office of Former Rep. Tim Walz (D-MN)

Walz Works for Minnesota Farmers on 2018 Farm Bill Conference Committee

Sept. 5, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Tim Walz (MN-01) joined fellow Farm Bill Conferees at the first public meeting of the 2018 Farm Bill Conference Committee. This is the second consecutive Farm Bill Conference Committee on which Rep. Walz has been selected to serve.

“It is an honor to advocate for Minnesota’s farmers on the 2018 Farm Bill Conference Committee,” Walz said. “No Farm Bill is perfect, but if we reject radical ideology and embrace bipartisanship, I am optimistic we can pass a meaningful Farm Bill that works for Minnesotans, beginning farmers, veterans hoping to start a career in agriculture, and our environment. A Farm Bill that is in the best interests of both our farmers and the most vulnerable among us is not out of our reach if we are willing to find the common ground necessary to get it done, and that is what I intend to do.”

Walz is one of 56 members to serve on the Farm Bill Conference Committee, including nine Senators and 47 Representatives of the House.

Walz’s priorities for the Farm Bill include ensuring that farmers have a reliable safety net to fall back on during hard times; strengthening programs that help young folks and veterans get into farming; championing the conservation title, soil health and working lands programs; protecting and improving in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP); and investing in renewable energy development.
