Organization's Own Description:
Since 1847 the American Medical Association (AMA) has had one mission: to promote the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health. Today, the core strategy used to carry out this mission is our concerted effort to help doctors help patients.
We do this by uniting physicians nationwide to work on the most important professional and public health issues.
For over 160 years the American Medical Association has promoted scientific advancement, improved public health, and invested in the doctor and patient relationship. AMA History is a rich narrative of how this institution and its members play an important role in the development of medicine in the United States.
The American Medical Association helps doctors help patients by uniting physicians nationwide to work on the most important professional and public health issues.
AMA policy on issues in medicine and public health is decided through its democratic policy-making process, in the AMA House of Delegates.
