Summary:

The 109th Congress may again decide whether to continue to protect the ecosystemon the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) or to open it to oiland gas drilling , with good prospects of finding economically recoverable amounts ofoil. Less certain are the actual amounts of oil and gas to be found, the impacts ofdevelopment on world oil prices and on the U.S. economy, including employment -although recent substantial increases in oil and gas prices tend to boost estimates ofeconomically recoverable oil.
