Summary:

Suicide remains a leading cause of death among U.S. youth. Most experts maintainthat screening for high-risk youth within the context of a comprehensive suicideprevention program is a cost-effective strategy. While the federal government does notmandate screening, it provides grant funds that are used for screening programs, withactive parental consent. This report discusses the issues surrounding screening as astrategy for youth suicide prevention.
