Summary:
In terms of output and sales, the domestic U.S. furniture manufacturing industryhas been a large and growing industry since 1990. The gross output of furniture andrelated products grew steadily from about $40 billion to $74 billion in the ten yearsbetween 1991 and 2001. Output fell with the recession in 2001, but buoyed by theboom in residential housing, furniture output growth soon resumed. By 2005, totalfurniture output had reached more than $85 billion. Household furnishingsaccounted for $48 billion, and office furniture and fittings another $26 billion.
