Summary:

This report explores a range of state coverage initiatives by reviewing what states have done through public initiatives and private health insurance. It is based on data from a 50 state survey conducted in 2003 by the Institute for Health Care Research and Policy at Georgetown University under contract to CRS. More specifically, it examines the states experience expanding health insurance to the uninsured.
