Summary:
This report provides an overview of TMA. While Section 1925 of the SocialSecurity Act outlines the provisions requiring states to provide TMA for up to 12months, states have considerable flexibility in designing and implementing theirTMA programs. To better understand these programs, the Congressional ResearchService (CRS) conducted a survey of state TMA policies in effect on July 1, 2002. This report summarizes the results of the survey and discusses legislation introducedto extend, and in some instances to modify, TMA.
