Summary:

In the 108th Congress, interest continues in the trade impacts and regulation of agricultural biotechnology. Since the first genetically engineered crops became commercially available in the mid-1990s, U.S. soybean, cotton, and corn farmers have been rapidly adopting them. As adoption has spread, the policy debate over costs and benefits has intensified.
