Summary:

Most federally funded cancer research is conducted through the National Institutes of Health(NIH). Federal spending under NIH for research on selected cancer sites (i.e., the part of thebody in which the cancer presents itself) is shown in Table 1. Additional research is conducted bythe Department of Defense (DOD) through the Congressionally Directed Medical ResearchProgram (CDMRP). Federal spending under CDMRP is shown in Table 2. Table 3 presents dataon new cancer cases and estimated deaths for 2009.
