Summary:
The President's 2009 budget estimates current law Medicare net outlays of $413billion in FY2009. The budget includes Medicare legislative proposals withestimated savings of $12.2 billion in FY2009 and $178 billion over the five-yearbudget window. The President's budget also includes Medicare administrativeproposals with estimated savings of $645 million in FY2009 and $4.7 billion overthe five-year budget window, which brings the estimated savings from the totalMedicare budget proposals to $12.8 billion in FY2009 and $183 billion over the fiveyearbudget window. Proposals include savings achieved through reductions in manyof the Medicare payment updates.
