Summary:

In 2005 the United States incurred arecord merchandise trade deficit of $766billion on a census basis and $783 billion ona balance-of-payments basis (BoP). A surplusin services trade of $66 billion gave a deficitof $717 billion on goods and services (BoP)for the year - up $105 billion or 17.2% fromthe $611 billion deficit in 2004.
