Summary:
The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act represents a comprehensive, far-reachingamending of the 1973 Consumer Product Safety Act. Although a thorough review of the CPSIA isbeyond the scope of this report, the principal purpose of which is to provide context and insightinto the key problems of the on-going implementation of the new law, it is useful to list the majorprovisions. House and Senate committee and subcommittee chairmen have exchanged correspondencewith the two-person CPSC Commission about how best to resolve numerous compliance andenforcement questions and several bills have been introduced to deal with various issues.
