H.R. 7694, Abuse of the Pardon Prevention Act of 2020 (CBO Report for Congress)

Premium   Download PDF Now (1 page)
Congress 116th
Date Requested July 23, 2020
Requested By House Committee on the Judiciary
Date Sent Nov. 9, 2020
Description:
H.R. 7694 would require the Attorney General and Executive Office of the President to submit legal materials relating to Presidential pardons to the Congress within 30 days after a pardon is granted. The bill also would clarify current law that it is a crime for the President or Vice President to accept bribes for a pardon or commutation. Because the bill would not impose a significant additional administrative burden on the Office of the Attorney General or the Executive Office of the President, CBO estimates that implementing the legislation would cost less than $500,000 over the 2021-2025 period; any spending would be subject to the availability of appropriated funds.
