Premium   Download PDF Now (3 pages)
Congress 116th
Date Requested Nov. 14, 2018
Requested By Senate Committee on Indian Affairs
Date Sent Nov. 28, 2018
Description:
S. 1942 would direct the Department of Justice (DOJ) to provide training on recording tribal affiliation in federal databases and to create guidelines for law enforcement and criminal investigations in Indian Country, or all Indian reservations under the jurisdiction of the United States government.   CBO estimates that implementing the bill would cost $15 million over the 2019-2023 period. Such spending would be subject to appropriation.   Enacting the bill would not affect direct spending or revenues; therefore, pay-as-you-go procedures do not apply. CBO estimates that enacting S. 1942 would not increase net direct spending or on-budget deficits in any of the four consecutive 10-year periods beginning in 2029.   S. 1942 contains no intergovernmental or private-sector mandates as defined in the Unfunded Mandates Reform Act.
