Congress 115th
Date Requested Nov. 28, 2017
Requested By the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations
Date Sent Dec. 21, 2017
Description:

S. 1928 would require the Administration to establish an interagency task force to undertake a periodic review of several multilateral organizations (such as the World Bank and U.N. agencies) that receive voluntary and assessed contributions from the federal government and report on its findings to the Congress.

The task force would be led by the Department of State and would consult with the Congress and outside experts. It would assess the multilateral organizations’ financial management practices and policies to ensure accountability and transparency. It also would evaluate the extent to which the organizations meet their stated goals, how well those goals align with U.S. foreign policy, and whether there are redundancies between the two. Finally, it would consider the effectiveness of pursuing U.S. objectives through a multilateral rather than a bilateral approach.
