WASHINGTON — Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21) issued the following statement regarding House votes Wednesday night:
Yesterday, I voted against H. Res. 1449.
Indeed, the scourge of anti-Semitism is on the rise at home and abroad – evidenced by the International Criminal Court’s absurd issuance of an arrest warrant against Benjamin Netanyahu. However, the resolution in question is a meaningless piece of paper that references language from an international organization that poses First Amendment concerns.
Instead of wasting time on show votes like this, Congress should answer the threats to Israel and the Jewish people with real action. We should permanently stop the flow of taxpayer dollars to institutions like the United Nations that have been the cesspool of this hateful and evil ideology for decades, and the Senate should take up and pass my bill to sanction the International Criminal Court (H.R. 8282).
Anti-Semitism is evil. It has been the driving ideology behind some of the worst atrocities in human history, and it has no place in a decent and civilized society. But DC-style show votes on toothless resolutions won't do anything to stop it.
