Summary:
Members of Congress and the Bush Administration have placed international trade issues high on the legislative agenda for the 107th Congress. Legislation has been introduced to provide trade promotion ("fast-track") authority to the President, to rewrite export control provisions, and to revise trade remedy laws. Other items of note include congressional approval of bilateral trade agreements with Jordan and Vietnam, and the reauthorization of certain trade preferences. The reauthorization of trade adjustment assistance for firms and workers may also be addressed.
