Summary:

President Bush requested $95.253 billion for federal R&D in FY2002, a 5.8-ercent increase over FY2001. Defense R&D would increase 8.1 percent. Federal civilian R&D would increase 3.6 percent. Funding for basic research would increase 6.2 percent. Two agencies, the Department of Defense and the National Institutes of Health, account for the entire growth in the R&D budget.
