Congress 117th
Date Requested Feb. 28, 2022
Requested By the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources
Date Sent May 12, 2022
Description:
S. 1354 would amend the National Trails System Act to designate 17 miles of trail within the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park in Alaska as the Chilkoot National Historic Trail. The bill also would direct the Bureau of Land Management to study the feasibility of designating the Alaska Long Trail, which runs for about 500 miles from Seward, Alaska, to Fairbanks, Alaska, as a national scenic trail. Using information from the National Park Service, CBO expects that the designation of the Chilkoot National Historic Trail would have no significant cost. Additionally, CBO estimates that conducting the trail feasibility study would cost less than $500,000 over the 2022-2026 period; such spending would be subject to the availability of appropriated funds.
