Republican lobbying firms outpace Democratic firms

Posted by Heavyn Lester on Oct. 21, 2024

Lobbying firms that lean Republican are far outpacing Democratic-leaning firms in revenue.

The top five Republican lobbying firms made $29 million in the first half of this year, well above the $19 million that Democratic firms reported taking in. The top Republican-leaning firm, Williams & Jensen PLLC, received approximately $8.2 million for federal lobbying in the first six months of 2024, well above the $4.6 million that the top Democrat-leaning firm, theGROUP DC LLC, received.

Firms are consider to be "leaning" in one way if at least 60% of the lobbyists there have worked in the past for a party's candidates. However, many top firms, including Williams & Jensen and theGROUP DC, label themselves as bipartisan.

Only five Democrat-leaning lobbying firms received over $3 million for federal lobbying: theGROUP DC LLC, NVG LLC, Avenue Solutions, Townsend Public Affairs Inc. and Boundary Stone Partners LLC. The top five Republican-leaning firms - Williams & Jensen PLLC, Miller Strategies LLC, Fierce Government Relations, Harbinger Strategies LLC and Venture Government Strategies LLC - received at least $4.4 million for lobbying in the first half of 2024, with the top three receiving over $5 million.

The same trend holds over all firms. In 2023, for example, GOP-leaning firms took in $1.03 billion. Democratic-leaning firms raised only $649 million.
